ANOTHER YEAR GONE BY!!!!

The first decade of the new millenium is almost over and The Radiology Clinic continues to enhance the service is gives to its patients. Last year saw the introduction of the New Digital system which has improved beyond belief the quality of the radiographic image. Smaller lesions are being detected and abnormalities are seen in more detail with more information being given to the patient and doctor.

The spin offs from the new system are many. These include a reduction in the radiation used to produce the image and thus less radiation to the patient. This means that more films could be taken to help with more accurate diagnosis if this is necessary.

Now reports are being sent directly to patient and doctor immediately through the new email service which means that reports arrive in computers outside the Clinic even before the patient has left. The emails contain images also allowing doctors immediate access to changes seen on the xray. This obviously means earlier and more effective treatment.

Off site reporting is now also possible which means that patients can attend the Clinic for examination even when the Consultant Radiologist is not himself there, for example, he is on holiday. The images have been sent to his computer and a report generated from overseas and sent directly to the patient and doctor. The Radiologist also speaks directly to the patient in the Clinic to explain what has been found. This situation occurred a couple of times last year and it worked perfectly smoothly much to the relief and amazement of the patient.

Finally last but not least is the ability to store images on our large server which will mean that patient woill not have to bring cumbersome packets to the Clinic in future as they will be retrieved and viewed on the monitors here. No more lost films!!!

2010 will be the year that films actually get replaced by CD's. The latter are more resilient and the images are much more detailed that on film. Obviously films can still be produced through our Laser Printer when these are required.

Who knows what else 2010 will bring..............
