Examination Description
An AAA (Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm) ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging test used to check the size of the abdominal aorta, the large blood vessel that supplies blood to your lower body. This scan measures the diameter of the aorta and identifies if there's an aneurysm. The aorta is usually about 2 cm wide. An aneurysm is typically diagnosed if it's 3cm or larger. Recommended for men over the age of 65 years, especially with a smoking history. It may be done in people with family history or other risk factors such as Hypertension (high blood pressure), Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), High Cholesterol or Dyslipidaemia.
