Ultrasound Breast
Ultrasound on its own, Recommended for women under the age of 35 yrs / in between yearly checks
Examination Description
A breast ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive imaging examination that uses sound waves to create detailed images of the breast tissue. It does not use radiation and is generally painless. Breast ultrasound is commonly used to assess breast lumps and help determine whether they are fluid-filled, such as a cyst, or solid. It can also be used to further assess areas seen on a mammogram that require clarification. At our radiology clinic, breast ultrasound examinations are performed by breast specialised radiologists in a comfortable and private setting, providing expert breast imaging assessment and care. Breast ultrasound is particularly useful in younger women, usually under the age of 35, as well as in patients with breast implants or those who have had previous breast surgery or radiotherapy. During the examination, a small amount of gel is applied to the skin, and a handheld ultrasound probe is moved gently over the breast and underarm area to capture images. For women over the age of 35, breast ultrasound is usually performed alongside mammography and should not replace a mammogram when one is clinically required. This examination is suitable for women and men and may be recommended as part of a breast assessment or follow-up imaging plan.
