Cervical Spine X-Ray

X-Ray of the neck

Ta' Xbiex

Examination Description

A cervical spine X-ray is a quick, non-invasive imaging examination that uses a small amount of radiation to produce images of the bones and joints in the neck. This examination is commonly used to assess neck pain, stiffness, headaches, injury, trauma, arthritis, reduced movement, or changes in the alignment of the cervical spine. It may also be used when symptoms extend into the arms or legs, such as pain or pins and needles. A cervical spine X-ray can help show wear-and-tear changes affecting the discs and joints, as well as signs that may be associated with muscle spasm or abnormal posture. During the examination, you may be asked to stand, sit, or lie in different positions while images are taken from different angles. You may be asked to move your head or neck slightly so that the cervical spine can be seen clearly. The examination is quick and generally painless, although some positions may be uncomfortable if you are already experiencing neck pain. Preparation No special preparation is usually required for a cervical spine X-ray. You may eat and drink as normal before your appointment unless advised otherwise. Please inform the radiographer if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant before the examination. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing and removing necklaces, earrings, hair clips, or other metal items around the neck and head area before the X-ray. You may be asked to change into a gown if needed.
