Shin / Tibia X-Rays

X-Rays of the shin (Tibia)

Ta' Xbiex

Examination Description

Shin or tibia X-rays are quick, non-invasive imaging examinations that use a small amount of radiation to produce images of the tibia, which is the main bone in the lower leg between the knee and ankle. This examination is commonly used to assess shin or lower leg pain, injury, trauma, fractures, bone abnormalities, or changes following surgery. It may also be used to monitor healing after an injury or to assess existing bone conditions. During the examination, you may be asked to sit or lie on an X-ray table while images are taken from different angles. You may need to position your leg in certain ways so that the tibia can be seen clearly. The examination is quick and generally painless, although some positions may be uncomfortable if you are already experiencing pain. Preparation No special preparation is usually required for shin or tibia X-rays. You may eat and drink as normal before your appointment unless advised otherwise. Please inform the radiographer if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant before the examination. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the lower leg area and avoiding metal fastenings, zips, or buttons around the knee, shin, or ankle. You may be asked to remove jewellery or change into a gown before the X-ray.
