Sinus X-Rays

Xray of the Sinuses and Face

Ta' Xbiex

Examination Description

Sinus X-rays are quick, non-invasive imaging examinations that use a small amount of radiation to produce images of the air-filled spaces within the bones of the face, known as the sinuses. This examination may be used to assess sinus pain, facial pressure, headaches, nasal blockage, suspected sinus infection, inflammation, or fluid levels within the sinuses. Sinus X-rays can help show whether the sinuses appear clear or whether there are signs of congestion or fluid. Please note that sinus X-rays are limited and do not show soft tissue conditions such as nasal or sinus polyps in detail. During the examination, you may be asked to sit, stand, or position your head in different ways while images are taken from different angles. The examination is quick and painless. Preparation No special preparation is usually required for sinus X-rays. You may eat and drink as normal before your appointment unless advised otherwise. Please inform the radiographer if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant before the examination. We recommend removing earrings, nose jewellery, hair clips, glasses, dentures, or any other metal items around the head and face before the X-ray. You may be asked to change into a gown if needed.
