Ultrasound Abdomen

Ultrasound Abdomen

Ta' Xbiex

Examination Description

An ultrasound of the abdomen is a safe, non-invasive examination that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the organs and structures within the abdomen. It does not use radiation and is generally painless. This examination is used to assess the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, the back of the abdomen, and the major arteries and veins. It may be recommended for patients experiencing abdominal pain, jaundice, unexplained weight loss, bloating, or other abdominal symptoms. It is also commonly used as a general check-up test. During the examination, a small amount of gel is applied to the skin, and an ultrasound probe is moved gently over the abdomen to capture images. You may be asked to change position or hold your breath briefly so that certain organs can be seen more clearly. Preparation Please do not eat or drink for 5 hours before your appointment. Fasting helps reduce gas in the intestines and allows the abdominal organs to be seen more clearly. Please also refrain from passing urine for 1 hour before your appointment, as a fuller bladder may help improve the quality of some images. You may wear comfortable clothing, ideally something that allows easy access to the abdomen.
