Examination Description
An MSK ultrasound of both shoulders is a safe, non-invasive examination that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joint spaces, bursae, and surrounding soft tissues of both shoulders. It does not use radiation and is generally painless. This examination provides a full assessment of both shoulders and allows comparison between the right and left sides. Comparing both shoulders can be helpful when assessing pain, reduced movement, sports injuries, trauma, inflammation, tendon problems, bursitis, fluid around the joint, or suspected muscle or tendon tears. MSK ultrasound is a quick and accurate test and is often used alongside a plain X-ray when assessing chronic shoulder pain or injury. It also allows dynamic assessment, meaning the shoulders can be examined while they are moving, which may help identify certain causes of pain, weakness, or restricted movement. During the examination, a small amount of gel is applied to the skin, and an ultrasound probe is moved gently over both shoulders to capture images. You may be asked to move your arms into different positions during the scan so that the shoulder structures can be assessed more clearly and compared from side to side. Preparation No special preparation is usually required for an MSK ultrasound of both shoulders. You may eat and drink as normal before your appointment. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows easy access to both shoulder areas, such as a sleeveless or loose-fitting top. Your privacy and comfort will be maintained throughout the examination.

Insurance Coverage: Local insurance claim forms are available at our clinic. It is your responsibility to verify coverage with your insurance provider. Late Arrival policy: If you anticipate being late for your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate you, but please note that late arrivals may result in shortened appointment time or rescheduling, depending on the circumstances.
