Examination Description
An MSK ultrasound of the hand is a safe, non-invasive examination that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of the tendons, ligaments, joints, nerves, and surrounding soft tissues of the hand. It does not use radiation and is generally painless. This examination is commonly used to assess hand pain, swelling, sports injuries, trauma, tendon problems, ligament injuries, inflammation, fluid around the joints, ganglion cysts, and soft tissue lumps such as lipomas. It may also be useful in assessing certain causes of stiffness, clicking, restricted movement, or nerve-related symptoms. MSK ultrasound is a quick and accurate test and is often used alongside a plain X-ray when assessing chronic hand pain or injury. It also allows dynamic assessment, meaning the hand and fingers can be examined while moving, which may help identify certain causes of pain or restricted movement. During the examination, a small amount of gel is applied to the skin, and an ultrasound probe is moved gently over the hand and fingers to capture images. You may be asked to move or position your hand and fingers in different ways during the scan so that the structures can be assessed more clearly. Preparation No special preparation is usually required for an MSK ultrasound of the hand. You may eat and drink as normal before your appointment. We recommend removing rings, bracelets, watches, or jewellery before the examination. Your privacy and comfort will be maintained throughout the scan. Please note that this examination assesses one side only. If both sides need to be assessed or compared, please schedule the bilateral MSK ultrasound.

The appointment time shown when booking reflects the reserved time slot for the examination itself and may not represent the total time spent at the clinic. Insurance Coverage: Local insurance claim forms are available at our clinic. It is your responsibility to verify coverage with your insurance provider. Late Arrival policy: If you anticipate being late for your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate you, but please note that late arrivals may result in shortened appointment time or rescheduling, depending on the circumstances.
