Examination Description
An obstetric ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive examination that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the baby during pregnancy. It does not use radiation and is generally painless. This examination may be used to confirm pregnancy, assess the baby’s position, check the baby’s heartbeat, estimate pregnancy dates, assess growth, and check the amount of fluid around the baby. It may also be used to assess the placenta position and provide general reassurance during pregnancy. At our clinic, obstetric ultrasound is offered as a general pregnancy scan. Please note that we do not perform Down syndrome screening tests, nuchal translucency measurements, or detailed anomaly scans. This examination does not assess for brain or heart abnormalities in the baby. During the examination, a small amount of gel is applied to the abdomen, and an ultrasound probe is moved gently over the skin to capture images. You may be asked to change position slightly so that the baby and pregnancy structures can be seen more clearly. Preparation No special preparation is usually required for most obstetric ultrasound scans. You may eat and drink as normal before your appointment unless advised otherwise. For early pregnancy scans (less than 20 weeks / 5 months), you are asked to attend with a full bladder, as this can help improve the quality of the images. Please contact the clinic before your appointment if you are unsure whether a full bladder is required. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the abdomen. Your privacy and comfort will be maintained throughout the examination.

American Express is NOT accepted. Our prices are based on standard procedures. The final cost may vary if additional services are required, such as extra X-ray views, further imaging, a longer consultation, or other specialised procedures. Prices are subject to change without prior notice. Appointment Duration: We advise patients to allow approximately 1 hour for their appointment. However, the total time spent at the clinic may vary depending on the type of examination, preparation required, consultation, results discussion, additional imaging or views, and whether further assessment is needed on the day. The appointment time shown when booking reflects the reserved time slot for the examination itself and may not represent the total time spent at the clinic. Insurance Coverage: Local insurance claim forms are available at our clinic. It is your responsibility to verify coverage with your insurance provider. Late Arrival policy: If you anticipate being late for your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible. We will do our best to accommodate you, but please note that late arrivals may result in shortened appointment time or rescheduling, depending on the circumstances.
