Ultrasound Pelvis

Ultrasound Pelvis

Ta' Xbiex

Examination Description

An ultrasound of the pelvis is a safe, non-invasive examination that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of the pelvic organs and surrounding structures. It does not use radiation and is generally painless. For this examination, a full urinary bladder is needed. The bladder acts as a window, helping the ultrasound waves pass through and allowing the pelvic organs to be seen more clearly. A pelvic ultrasound is used to assess the uterus, ovaries, and surrounding pelvic structures. It may be recommended for symptoms such as irregular menstrual periods, pelvic pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding, or abnormal vaginal discharge. During the examination, a small amount of gel is applied to the lower abdomen, and an ultrasound probe is moved gently over the skin to capture images. You may be asked to change position slightly so that the pelvic organs can be seen more clearly. Preparation Please drink 1 litre of water over 15 minutes, 1 hour before your appointment. Your bladder needs to be full for the scan, so please refrain from passing urine before your appointment. You may wear comfortable clothing, ideally something that allows easy access to the lower abdomen.
